I am back. I know everyone has been wondering where I have been but to be frank I have just been lacking in my NBA watching and didn’t feel like I have been watching enough to write these posts or whatever they are. I was too consumed with being a depressed Buffalo Bills fan but I digress. Today we are discussing the trade deadline and what I think can happen.
With the trade deadline we all hope we get the craziest trades like in 2K. We already kind of got that crazy deal with Kyrie Irving getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The question is can we get more. Let us take a look at what we know before we go crazy throwing deals around.
We know that the Clippers want to add another guard so they can upgrade from John Wall and Reggie Jackson (truly shocking), the Utah Jazz are being stingy about trading more than three of their players, the Brooklyn Nets want to add more to build around KD even though Cam Thomas is the greatest player known to man, Furkan Korkmaz requested a trade?, and the entire Toronto Raptors organization is potentially on the move.
The Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors could be huge sellers and supply multiple teams with rotational players for playoff runs. Jarred Vanderbilt has been looked at by the Trail Blazers, Clippers, Nuggets, Nets, and other teams. Vanderbilt is a great addition for teams looking for a young big man to bolster their depth at the position. He is a power forward who can play center in small ball lineups. The Jazz can package him with Mike Conley to a team like the Clips or Lakers who could use a guard and a big man. Something like Luke Kennard, John Wall or Reggie Jackson, and Amir Coffey with a pick included for Conley and Vanderbilt could go a long way. The Lakers could do Russ and those future first round picks for Conley, Vanderbilt and Clarkson or Beasley. I like that deal a lot for the Lakers actually. Some teams the trades just come to you.
Let’s look at the Raptors and what they have to offer. You could do essentially the same trade with the Lakers for Gary Trent Jr. and Fred Van Vleet. Enough with the Lakers though lets get FVV with KD. The Nets could flip Dinwiddie or trade Joe Harris with some picks or just maybe they ship off Ben Simmons for him or even Pascal Siakam. I think the Nets should explore as many options that they can because with Kevin Durant at the helm you are bound to be a playoff team and potentially a Finals competitor.
Furkan Korkmaz finds a new home in Phoenix with a trade involving him Danuel House, a pick for Jae Crowder. This way Philadelphia gets another rotation wing player and Korkmaz is happy. Korkmaz being happy is all I care about.
Some little trades to help contenders. I struggled to find a way to get Eric Gordon to the Milwaukee Bucks but I am not done cooking. So instead I got Gordon on the Heat for Nikola Jovic and Duncan Robinson with some picks. The Houston Rockets need to make sure Eric Gordon is somewhere contributing. The Boston Celtics can offer Grant Williams, Danilo Gallinari, and Payton Prichard for Mason Plumlee to add another big man. The Golden State Warriors could ship out the young James Wiseman to the San Antonio Spurs for Jakob Poeltl. The Mavericks should add Bogdan Bogdanovic for the Davis Bertans contract, Frank Ntilikina, and a first round pick. One last contender deal could be the Denver Nuggets trading for Matisse Thybulle or Alex Caruso by packaging the Jeff Green or Ish Smith contracts with Bones Hyland and a pick or young player.
With the trade deadline we all want blockbuster deals. Let me cook some up. The Cleveland Cavaliers can make their starting five flawless by trading Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens and some picks for O.G. Anunoby. They can roll out Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, O.G., Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley. That is a lineup nobody would want to play. I threw together a trade for my Blazers to get Pascal Siakam by trading Josh Hart, Jusuf Nurkic and some picks to Toronto with the Timberwolves getting involved by trading Naz Reid to Portland for Justise Winslow and Bryn Forbes going to Toronto. It ain’t enough but I would love for Portland to do something big. A better Siakam blockbuster would be by adding him to the Dallas Mavericks creating a new big three in the league. Davis Bertans, Christian Wood, Josh Green or Jaden Hardy and some picks would be crazy for Dallas. A big three of Kyrie, Luka, and Siakam is very interesting depending on Kyrie’s contract status.
There ya have it. Hopefully I keep these coming but I can’t wait to see what happens at the deadline. Let’s look for Korkmaz to get his request granted.
